Paul Baker Bio

Currently residing in Austin , Texas, Paul Baker’s career as  a composer, saxophonist, educator, and clinician has covered a wide variety of musical worlds ranging from jazz to film and tv to R&B to Broadway to universes that exist only inside a computer game. He has performed in venues from the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles to the Oklahoma City Rodeo Opry to the Village Vanguard in New York City to jazz festivals across Europe.  He has composed and arranged for films, theater, jazz bands of all sizes and levels, and computer games. Paul also owns Baker’s Jazz And More, a music publishing and retail company, and publishes the BJAM Session newsletter. Learn more about Paul’s music at www.bakersjazzandmore.com .


Paul has been a member of many outstanding ensembles throughout his career including the Bill Watrous and Tom Kubis big bands, the University of North Texas One O’clock Lab Band, the Dallas Jazz Orchestra, and the Tony Campise big band. He has also had the honor of appearing with such artists as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, The Manhattan Transfer, Boz Scaggs, and Jack Sheldon, and many others, in addition to numerous touring Broadway shows.

Paul holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies from North Texas State University and an Advanced Studies Certificate in Film Music Composition from the University of Southern California.
